In tribute to a hundred years since the establishment of the kibbutz movement the museum will present an exhibition that reflects kibbutz life as seen from the perspective of a caricaturist who is himself a kibbutz member. We have chosen the caricatures of Shmuel (Shmulik) Katz with images of his own kibbutz Gaaton from 1948 till today.
Shmuel Katz passed away a month ago and thus this exhibition has now become a tribute not only to kibbutz life but to the man himself.
The exhibition includes caricatures and elements of kibbutz life then and today: The main dining room, the children’s rooms, a kibbutz members meeting and so forth…. It reveals the many changes kibbutzim have undergone. Along with the images there will also be an article and lexicon of terms by journalist and author Rubik Rosenthal, a former kibbutz member from Nachshon who worked with Shmulik Katz in the “Al HaMishmar” and “Maariv” newspapers.
The exhibition catalogue is sponsored by the Havatzelet Foundation, the Kibbutz Movement and kibbutz Gaaton.
